Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the North Atlantic Regional Medical Command implemented a virtual behavioral health care delivery system.  Tele-Behavioral Health Service was established to meet the needs of Soldiers, beneficiaries, and retirees where there is limited direct care capacity and/or have limited TRICARE^® network capability.

Tele-Behavioral Health provides cost-effective, high-quality, and timely access to outpatient behavioral healthcare regardless of the patient location and acuity.  Using cutting-edge telemedicine technology, WRAMC develop a comprehensive and efficacious clinical practice model that can be adopted as an enterprise solution.  Approximately 2000 appointments are seen monthly by this service.  These appointments include evaluations of pre-deployment and post-deployment Soldiers, medical board evaluations, psychological intake evaluations for TBI and PTSD, child and adolescent evaluations and treatment, as well as other readiness evaluations.  Services can be dialed up or down as the need for additional staff at the supported Military Treatment Facilities (MTF) require.  This healthcare service delivery system is now being deployed across the MEDCOM with WRAMC serving as one of the major hubs for DoD level support.  Currently, the Tele-Behavioral Health Service is interfacing with 22 MTF's operated by the Army, Navy, and Air Force.  Providers are located at WRAMC as well as pre-positioned at the supported MTFs.
