Ultimate Warrior (2006)

About AMEDD - AMEDD Innovations Since Desert Storm

Like the rest of the nation, the Army suffers from an epidemic of obesity and has developed several innovative means to educate Soldiers, Families and retirees on proper nutrition and weight control. One highly accessible means was developed by the U.S. Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine.

The "Ultimate Warrior" Web site on the Army Knowledge Online web portal is comprised of two web-based communities available to Soldiers, their Families and Army retirees with Army Knowledge Online access. The two communities are the "Weigh to Stay" community for weight management and weight loss, and the "HOOAH Bodies" community for body building, sports nutrition, endurance training, and dietary supplement education. Both of these communities provide resources that include real-time, web-based counseling provided by registered dietitians, a psychologist and certified fitness instructors. As of mid-2007, there were about 7,300 members in both communities.

Web-based counseling has increased access to care, especially for those in the Reserve Component, and for Soldiers who otherwise would have to travel to see a healthcare provider for required counseling.
