R2D Conducting TBI Program Staff Assistance Visits
The Staff Assistant Visits (SAVs) are being conducted at Army hospitals across the US in order to establish a standardized, consistent process of identification, evaluation, and treatment of Soldiers and other patients with Traumatic Brain Injury throughout the Army Medical Department (MEDCOM).

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) can be defined as an injury to the head from a blunt or penetrating object. It can also come from rapid movement of the head that causes back and forth movement inside the skull.

It has often been called the silent epidemic because it is invisible. As a result, it remains a major health issue for the military. However, the majority of Soldiers who sustain a TBI recover fully within hours to days.

For more information, contact Ms. Cynthia Vaughan, OTSG/MEDCOM Public Affairs Office, cynthia.vaughan@us.army.mil; 703.681.0519.
